Thomas Jordan: Birkhoff averages and multifractal analysis
Abstract:
In this talk I will look at the problem of performing a multifractal analysis for Birkhoff averages. I will start by describing both the problem and the solution for the simple case of the doubling map on the circle (x to 2x mod 1). In this case the solution is well known. I will go on to outline some recent work (joint with Karoly Simon) on the problem for some non-conformal systems.
I will also briefly look at the case of non-uniformly hyperbolic maps.
