I am a Professor of Statistics in the School of Mathematical Sciences and the cross-faculty Centre for Statistics.

I obtained a BSc in Statistics from Heriot-Watt University in 1987 and a PhD in Applied Statistics from the University of Reading in 1991. From 1990-99 I was a Lecturer in the Department of Applied Statistics at the University of Reading, and was a Visiting Fellow in the Department of Statistics, University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1998. I came to Queen Mary in January 2000 as a Reader in Statistics and was promoted to a personal chair in 2004.

Research :

My research interests are in the design and analysis of experiments, particularly experiments with complex treatment structures. This includes treatments which are combinations of several factors, treatments which are levels of a continuous factor and treatments which are combinations of levels of several continuous factors (response surface experimentation).

My research is driven by problems arising in applications. Much of my experience has been in experiments in the food, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and bioprocessing industries and the related sciences such as food science, biotechnology and biochemistry. I also have experience of experiments in horticulture, animal science and early-phase clinical trials.
