I am a Senior Lecturer in Statistics in the School of Mathematical Sciences.
I obtained a BA in Mathematics (1971) at Churchill College Cambridge and a Diploma in Statistics at the University of Edinburgh. After a couple of years working as a Statistician in the Civil Service I studied for a PhD at the University of Southampton under Prof T.M.F.(Fred) Smith. My thesis was entitled Exchangeability and the Foundations of Survey Sampling (1978). I lectured on temporary appointments at the University of Nottingham and City University London and in 1980 went to Goldsmiths College London as a lecturer in Statistics. I was Head of Department from 1988 to 1990. I moved to Queen Mary in September 2004.
