Rigidity in Ergodic Theory and Topological Dynamics
Abstract:
I will discuss what it means for a transformation to be rigid
and what is known about the structure of rigidity sequences in ergodic
theory. Then I will move over to the topological side and discuss uniform
rigidity, which is the topological analogue of rigidity. Also, given an
increasing sequence that satisfies a growth condition, I will construct a
homeomorphism of the two-torus that is weakly mixing and uniformly rigid
with respect to the given sequence.
