Department Description
The School of Mathematical Sciences (SMS) at RIT offers undergraduate
and graduate degrees in Applied and Computational Mathematics, and an
undergraduate degree in Applied Statistics. The SMS is home to the
Center for Applied and Computational Mathematics (CACM) and the Center
for Computational Relativity and Gravitation (CCRG), along with a
variety of other research groups.
RIT is a nationally respected leader in professional and career-
oriented education attracting students from all 50 states and more
than 90 countries. RIT has been recognized on The Chronicle of Higher
Education's "Great Colleges to Work For" list. RIT is located on the
banks of the Genesee river in suburban Rochester, NY, which was
recently ranked by Places Rated Almanac as the 6th Best Place to Live
in America out of the 379 metro areas. The Rochester area has a
diverse population including African Americans (38% of the city and
14% of Monroe County) and Latin Americans (13% of the city and 5% of
the county). In addition, more than 7% of the population is foreign
born. Rochester has been ranked 7th among the "10 Best Cities to
Raise a Family" by Child Magazine, and 8th among 200 metro areas in

Brief Description
Applications are invited for faculty at the Assistant or Associate
Professor level, depending on experience, starting August 2009.
Responsibilities include scholarship, teaching, and service to the
School, the College of Science, and the Institute.
Detailed Description
Successful applicants are expected to contribute to the scholarship of
the School by means of externally funded research and mentoring
graduate and undergraduate students. We encourage application from
candidates who can add to our School's current strengths in applied
mathematics, mathematical modeling, mathematical biology, and discrete
mathematics. Applicants must be committed to excellence in
undergraduate teaching and have fluent communication skills in
English. We are seeking individuals who are committed to contributing
to RIT's core values, honor code, and statement of diversity.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: Ph.D. in Mathematics or related field with
specialization in Computational, Applied or Discrete Mathematics. A
track-record in scholarly activity and a strong commitment to future
scholarship, including externally funded research, as well as interest
in mentoring graduate and undergraduate students. A strong commitment
to undergraduate education. A commitment to participate in the
School's undergraduate and graduate research programs.
PREFERRED: Post-doctoral or equivalent research experience in
applied mathematics, mathematical modeling, mathematical biology or
discrete mathematics. Ability to strengthen research efforts within
SMS in CACM, CCRG or other research groups. At least one year of
teaching experience in a university setting. Ability to contribute to
the Institute's commitment to all diversities, including recruitment
and retention of underrepresented groups.
