The mid-term test was in Week 7, on 09/11/2011: the results were quite positive, the average was 69.8% and the median 72.2% (here's the mark distribution). If you have found that you entered a correct answer during the midterm test but the software didn't recognise it, please email the course administrator Ellie Nalson by Friday 25/11/2011 afternoon.

Each student is allocated to a specific exercise class. All students have been informed about this allocation by the School via e-mail during week 1 (please check your College e-mail account for this e-mail). The allocation list is available under this link (click on `group list' at the bottom of the page) and on the noticeboard in the Maths Office (on the first floor of the Maths Building). On the same page you find can the list of when your group has exercise classes. It is compulsory that you attend all sessions of the exercise class you have been allocated to. Attendance lists will be taken.

4. Online coursework

There are two types of coursework for this module: coursework that will be done online and coursework that will be done in writing on paper.
For the online coursework you have to register on Coursecompass. How to do this, and how to use the associated MyMathLab software, will be explained to you during the induction week on 23rd September 2011, 1100-1130am in Drapers Lecture Theatre. Please register on Coursecompass with your own personal access code for course ID malik77494.
New online coursework will be available each Wednesday starting from 7am (except in midterm week 7). The deadline for online coursework is every Thursday midnight of the following week and electronically enforced (again, except in midterm week 7).
Marks of the online coursework will not count towards your final mark for this course. Nevertheless, it is compulsory that you attempt all online coursework. An online coursework submission is only counted as a serious attempt if you score at least 10% of the available marks. If you submit less than or equal to 2 out of the first 5 online courseworks seriously, the School's Senior Tutor and your Academic Advisor will be informed that you are not making sufficient progress in this module, and your enrolment in this course may be terminated. The same rule applies to the subsequent 5 online courseworks.
There will be online exercises and online coursework. You are strongly encouraged to do the online exercises for practizing as often as you wish. 80% of the coursework questions will be sampled from these exercise questions, the rest will be new. However, you have only one attempt for doing the online coursework.
Here is a list of frequently asked questions concerning some more technical details of doing the online coursework.

5. Written coursework and exercise classes

In addition to the online coursework, there is written coursework. This coursework consists of one exercise sheet per week, which will be distributed at the beginning of the Tuesday lectures. One problem on this sheet you have to do by yourself as homework, and you have to hand in the solution to your personal tutor of this module in the exercise class of the following week. All the other questions on the coursework sheet are for practizing, e.g., during the exercise classes.
The first exercise classes will take place in week 2.
Your written coursework will be corrected and given back to you in the subsequent week, but it will not be marked. It is compulsory to hand in all weekly written coursework. The same rule applies to non-serious coursework submissions as in case of the online coursework.

There is a handout available containing information about the Calculus 1 midterm test: The test will take place on 09/11/2011. See the undergraduate website for details on the room allocation by surname (closer to the time). It will be performed in the College's computer labs and will particularly cover all online coursework and exercise questions. Please note that if you have not registered for the online software MML, you are not allowed to sit the test, which counts 20% to your final mark for this module.
There is no end-of-term test for this module.
