Speaker at Techfest 2013 Mumbai
Recently I had the privilege of being a keynote speaker at Techfest, Asia’s largest science and technology festival with a footfall of some 10,000 and a 16 year history. It was a wonderful opportunity to inspire a new generation of talented indians not only from IIT Bombay where it was held but coming from all over India.
Other speakers included a Nobel prize winning chemist, a Nobel prize winning economist, India’s first astronaut, a roboticist, an astronomer and a NASA scientist among others, so I had a fabulous time going to most of the other lectures myself. Click on the above photo for the full details and lecturer list for as long as it remains valid. The image is the convocation hall, my lecture room was smaller.
For my own part I talked about the nature of space and time, particularly my own work on `quantum spacetime’. My view is that with quantum gravity becoming measurable, theory and experiment now is the technology of 50 years time, and that there are many exciting possibilities given that we are only beginning to understand the theory.
Because of a possible cancellation the organisers asked me to prepare a 2nd lecture which was announced but then not needed after all. By popular demand I am making both lectures available here as pdfs.
Both are covered in my chapter of the book On Space and Time
