This is joint work with Alan Reid (UT Austin) and Marston Conder (Auckland). When is a residually finite group determined by its finite quotients? For example, given two finitely presented residually-finite groups that map onto the same sets of finite groups, under what circumstances can one deduce that the groups are isomorphic? In this talk I’ll address this question with particular emphasis on lattices in connected Lie groups.
