A two-year post is available in the Applied Mathematics Group in the School of Mathematical Sciences at Queen Mary, University of London, to work on a research project dealing with time series analysis and superstatistical model building for rainfall, sea level and flooding data. This is part of the EPSRC Flood MEMORY grant consisting of a collaboration of 11 UK universities and research institutes.

The work package leader for this project on clustered stochastic processes and complex spatio-temporal behaviour is Prof. Christian Beck.

Ideally the candidate would have experience in statistical physics, time series analysis, dynamical systems, meteorology, stochastic processes, or complex systems. The ability to work in an interdisciplinary team is essential. Some experience in doing numerical work would be very useful.

Applicants should possess a PhD or equivalent in physics, mathematics, engineering or a related discipline.

This full time, 2 year fixed term position is available to start at any time between 15 January 2013 and 30 September 2013. Starting salary will be £33,944 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave plus 4 College closure days, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
