Resit and first sit exam registration

If you are an undergraduate student eligible for any resits or first sits then you must log into MySIS and complete an online task called the ‘Re-assessment Opt In / Out Task’. This applies regardless of whether you are in or out of attendance.

The strict deadline for you to complete the task is Friday 16 December 2011.

The following is a summary of the key information about the task:

  • For each module you are eligible to resit or first sit you have to choose either to register or to opt out. You have to make a choice for each module by the deadline or the system will use the default choice (see below).
  • To make sure you are still able to meet progression or award requirements the system will not allow you to opt out of too many resits or first sits.
  • Although we recommended that you take all your resits, you will be able to see the current attempt number and the highest module mark you have obtained so far for each module. This will help you decide whether you want to resit or first sit.
  • If you choose to opt out then you will forfeit all further attempts to pass the module. In other words you will not be able to resit or first sit the assessment for a module at any future time.
  • If you are in debt to the College then you will not be able to access the task until you have cleared the outstanding debt. You will, however, see a message which informs you that you are a debtor. To clear your debt, please contact the Fees Office (email fees@qmul.ac.uk or telephone +44(0)20 7882 7676).

Important information if you are OUT OF ATTENDANCE

If you do not choose to register or opt out by the deadline then the system will default your choice to ‘opt out’ for those modules you have not made a decision about. You will also be automatically assigned a mark and grade of 0FN for the module (FN = Fail, no further attempts) and the module re-assessment record will be closed down.

This means you will not be registered for the module this year or at any time in the future. Furthermore you could end up failing if as a result you are opted out of too many modules to meet progression or award requirements.

Important information if you are IN ATTENDANCE

If you do not choose to register or opt out by the deadline then the system will default your choice to ‘registered’ for those modules you have not made a decision about. This means you will be entered into and expected to take the relevant assessment, which if you do not take it will mean you end up with a mark and grade of 0NS (NS = Non submission/non sit), although obviously this does not apply if you had a valid extenuating circumstance claim for not taking the assessment.

The regulations relevant to resit registration can be found in section 2 of the Academic Regulations 2010/11 (regs 2.38 – 2.41).

Full documentation is available and you are strongly advised to read it.
