Handbook, Guidance and Forms
The Handbook page provides access to an online version of the student handbook as a PDF file. It can be easily searched by computer.
The Teaching & learning page provides information on teaching and learning that explains some of the details of how undergraduate teaching operates in the School of Mathematical Sciences. This page is still being developed.
The Reports and documents page provides guidance on writing project reports and other mathematical documents in general. This page is still being developed.
The Problem report forms page provides the forms you need to use to report when you miss elements of assessment for good reasons or general extenuating circumstances that have disrupted your studies or examinations.
The Professional accreditation and exemptions page provides details of RSS accreditation and CT3 actuarial exemption.
The standard Queen Mary student forms published by the Academic Registry are available on the Queen Mary web site as PDF files. These forms cover change of address, change of programme, interruption of study, withdrawal from College, replacement student card, religious holidays, and exam entry for students resitting out of attendance.
Are you re-sitting exams out of attendance, interrupting your studies or thinking of leaving? Read the Queen Mary Advice and Counselling Service leaflets for advice – there is one for home / EU students and one for international students.
Important: Deadlines for interruption and extenuating circumstances
The deadline for interruption of studies will be announced soon, but is likely to be the end of Semester B.
If you have had severe problems this year and feel you may want to interrupt your studies for a year, please fill in the form, sign it and see me as soon as possible. Note that you are still allowed to sit some exams this year if you wish. The deadline for this is the end of the teaching period.
The deadline for extenuating circumstances will be announced soon, but is likely to be a few days before the June Examination Board.
You must inform the Exam Board of any extenuating circumstances during the year or the examination period which may affect your performance in the examinations. Please fill in an extenuating circumstances form and see me. You will need supporting documentation. The deadline for this is the end of the exam period. This deadline applies whether or not you are entitled to summer resits. Note that this date is before you know your results. Nevertheless, the Board cannot subsequently approve any retake applications made after you know your results, unless you have submitted details of extenuating circumstances by the end of the exam period. Resits (rather than retakes) subject to the cap of 40% are of course always allowed provided they are taken at the first opportunity. We know that some of you find it hard to report problems. You can be assured that they will be treated in confidence and the full details will only be known to the members of the sub-committee (Senior Tutor, Student Support Officer, Exam Board Chair and Exam Board Secretary).
