The study of sequences obtained by iterating polynomials in the complex plane

or rational maps in the Riemann sphere is at the origin of beautiful fractal

sets, such as the Mandelbrot set or Julia sets. I will present old and new

problems in the subject and will explain which tools or techniques are used

to attack those problems. For example, what is the long term behavior of a

sequence whose initial point is chosen at random? Or what does the Julia set

of a randomly chosen polynomial look like?
