The Centre for Discrete Mathematics is a new initiative to encourage both mathematical and interdisciplinary approaches to the field, within Queen Mary and in collaboration with other centres of excellence worldwide. In broad terms, Discrete Mathematics studies finite structures, such as networks, which are both fundamental mathematical objects and ubiquitous in everyday life. It is an area of strength across departments in the college, particularly in Pure and Applied Mathematics, Computer Science and Electronic Engineering, and also including researchers in the School of Business and Management and the School of Medicine and Dentistry. An initial focus of the Centre is a new interdisciplinary seminar that draws together researchers with many different perspectives on and applications of Discrete Mathematics.
The Centre has a website at qmdiscrete.wordpress.com, where information about events, visitors, expository material, and much more is kept.
