Applications for Summer Schools will normally open in the Spring term.
New for 2017, the School of Mathematical Sciences offered two non-residential Summer Schools to Year 11 students interested in studying Maths at a higher level. The information below relates to the 2017 programmes, but will give an idea of what you may expect in 2018.
What are the Maths Summer Schools?
The Maths Summer Schools are free, non-residential programmes for Year 11 students interested in Maths and will take place at our Mile End campus. Applications are open to all students, though we will give priority to students who meet our Widening Participation criteria.
Attending a Maths Summer School will give you the opportunity to experience for yourself what studying at university is really like, discover more about exciting aspects of Maths and complete a mini-project to learn about research and study skills. We hope that you will leave feeling inspired about Maths and confident in applying to university in the future, if you choose to.
Summer School activities will include:
- Mini research project
- Taster lectures about exciting areas of mathematics
- Advice and guidance on applying to university
- Tour of QMUL campus
- Experience of student life
- Social activities
When are the Maths Summer Schools?
There are two Maths Summer Schools to choose from - the programmes are identical, so you can choose the date that best suits you:
- Monday 17th - Thursday 20th July 2017
- Monday 24th - Thursday 27th July 2017
Who else will be there?
Other Year 11 students! You will have the chance to get to know the other students attending the Maths Summer School, who will come from many different schools. You will also meet our current undergraduate Maths students who will give you a first-hand glimpse into student life and answer all of your questions about university. Our undergraduate students will be with you all week, making sure you are having a fun and safe experience.
You will be taught by our expert academic lecturers and PhD students who will introduce you to exciting new areas of Maths and help you understand more about their research.
