Astronomy Unit and Mathematics Research Centre: international leaders in research

The Mathematics Research Centre (MRC) and Astronomy Unit (AU) draw academic visitors from all over the world. Weekly seminars in all of the major research areas supported by the School plus a large number of post-doctoral research fellows contribute to the rich academic atmosphere. The School is one of the largest mathematical sciences departments in the UK, offering postgraduates the opportunity to study and research topics from a wide spectrum of disciplines. Our staff are international leaders from diverse areas of research in mathematics, statistics, astronomy and astrophysics, leading to an energetic setting for postgraduate study.

A great place to study mathematical sciences

We are part of the internationally-renowned University of London and can be found in East London. From Queen Mary you can clearly see "The Gherkin" in the City of London and Canary Wharf in the new financial district. We are the only campus-based college of the University of London in central London, with a large Student Village on campus, which is ideal if you live outside London. Our location is also well served by public transport: Mile End station on the Central Line and Stepney Green station on the District Line are both 5-10 minutes' walk away. We are a multi-faculty institution, so you can mix with students studying a wide variety of other subjects. We offer joint degrees which combine mathematical sciences with business, computer science, economics, physics and psychology as well as degrees in mathematics, statistics, astronomy and astrophysics.
