Conjugacy Class Representatives in the Monster Group R. W. Barraclough and R. A. Wilson January 2005 Submitted to LMS JCM Included Files: monsterClasses.tar.gz Extracting the archive should produce a folder "monsterClases" which contains: (i) database Contains two data directories: dataT monster elements database for words of the form WT dataSuz " " " " " " " " W The perl scripts use data in the directory ./data so you need to rename whichever data directory you want to use to "data". The most interesting program here is cid.pl, which runs through the data and prints the lexicographically least element in each conjugacy class. No elements will be found for a number of conjugacy classes, this is because we find them by powering up elements in other classes. find.pl contains instructions for use. We used it to produce job files for our trace calculating programs. cid.data contains the class identification data. This is printed in Table 1 in the paper. (ii) 27 The file 27abMeatAxe.sh contains MeatAxe commands to produce an element in class 27A and an element in class 27B. The input generators are z1 for C z2 for D=B z3 for E The perl script slp2c.pl can be used to convert SLPs printed out from Magma to MeatAxe SLPs.
